How to Make Squid Game’s Dalgona Candy!

Dalgona (달고나) or ppopgi (뽑기) was a Korean street candy in the 1970s and 1980s that has surged in popularity after the release of Netflix’s hit Korean drama Squid Game. Many who grew up in Korea remember the dalgona candy outdoor vendors and the delicious scent of melted sugar.

Essentially sugar and baking soda, dalgona candy’s taste can be compared to caramel or honeycomb. Here, KAYAT will detail our homemade version of the dalgona candy made by our members!

Supplies: sugar, baking soda, pan/ladle, chopstick, Silpat mat, flattening device, cookie cutter

1: Pour sugar in your pan or ladle. Here, a little less than a cup is used. Adjust the amount of sugar to the desired amount of candies.

2: Mix your sugar over low to medium heat with a chopstick. Add a pinch of baking soda and continue mixing until the dalgona is a light golden-brown liquid.

3: Gently pour the mixture onto the Silpat mat into a circular shape.

4: Press the flattening device evenly onto the dalgona.

5: Press the cookie cutter shape evenly into the dalgona using the flattening device.

6: Enjoy!
